Time is almost up: LGA needs you! Contact the Legislature TODAY

We are in the final days of the legislative session, and the tax conference committee is working right now to finalize an agreement. We need your help in order to secure an update to the LGA formula and an appropriation increase. If you have not already, it is essential you contact your legislators, the legislative leaders, and the tax committee chairs TODAY.

The House omnibus tax bill includes the LGA formula proposal and adds $34 million to the appropriation. Click here to view the run for the House bill. To our extreme disappointment, the Senate omnibus tax bill does not include the LGA formula proposal or an appropriation increase.
Let your Senator know, especially if they are in the Republican majority, that the Legislature must agree to update the LGA formula and increase the LGA appropriation by at least $34 million before the end of the legislative session.

By any measure, the LGA program and appropriation have not kept up with city needs. From 2009 to 2022, LGA has seen an 18% increase compared to a 41% rise in inflation. This rise in the cost of goods and services makes it more and more difficult for cities to provide the public safety, core infrastructure, libraries, parks and recreation, and other services our residents and businesses rely on without contemplating significant property tax increases or services cuts.

Act Now!

Contact your legislators, the legislative leaders, and the tax committee chairs and urge them to include the LGA formula proposal and an LGA appropriation increase of at least $34 million in the taxes conference committee report TODAY!

Tell them that:

  1. The LGA formula proposal is a much-needed update to the current formula that
uses up-to-date data to better reflect city needs, and your community is counting
on the Senate and House to work together to include the formula and an
increase of at least $34 million in the omnibus tax bill.
  2. LGA is the most effective tool the state has for building strong communities in
Greater Minnesota and reducing property tax burdens on residents.
  3. Tell your story about the impact LGA has on your community! Share examples of
how inflation is impacting your city budget, and how LGA supports your
    community.
