A “Support Our Troops” silent auction will be held in conjunction with a naming ceremony for the Alexandria VA outreach clinic on Sept. 11, 2010. The silent auction will be from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Fat Daddy’s Bar & Grill, 115 30th Ave. E., with lunch being served from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The naming ceremony is at 1:00 p.m. at the Alexandria VA clinic, 515 22nd Ave. E. The event is sponsored by the American Legion Post 87 and members of the Alexandria community.
The Alexandria VA clinic will be named in honor of Max J. Beilke, the last official soldier to leave Vietnam who was also killed when Flight 77 was flown into the Pentagon on Sept. 11, 2001. Max worked with and in the Veterans Affairs office and was instrumental in putting together the Tricare medical package for Veterans. Veterans Affairs Secretary Shinseki will be the keynote speaker for the dedication ceremony and will be joined by other federal and state public officials.
