Attorney General Keith Ellison will be joining us at the CGMC Fall Conference to discuss Minnesota’s involvement in recent nationwide settlements against opioid manufacturers and distributors. In his presentation, which is at 2 p.m. on Nov. 18, Ellison will provide information about the settlements and how local governments can opt in and potentially receive a portion of the money that comes into the state. Local governments have until Jan. 2, 2022 to sign on to the settlements.
An advisory group is currently working to determine how the settlement money will be distributed and potential eligible uses for those dollars. Matt DuRose, assistant public safety director for the city of Mankato, serves as CGMC’s representative on the advisory group and CGMC staff member Elizabeth Wefel participates in an ex-officio capacity.
The CGMC Fall Conference will be held in-person Thursday, Nov. 18 – Friday, Nov. 19 at the Willmar Conference Center. In addition to Ellison, the conference will feature an array of speakers and presentations on important topics such as the 2020 Census results and demographic changes, how your city can take advantage of state programs and grants aimed at combating the child care crisis, American Rescue Plan funding, strategies for recruiting new residents to your community, and more.
