The Clean Water Council (CWC) will soon wrap up its work on recommendations for how the Clean Water Fund should be spent. Because sales tax revenues have been slightly higher than originally projected, there are additional funds available, and the CGMC believes putting that additional money toward wastewater projects would be a wise use of the Fund.
Late last week, the CGMC—along with our trades partners at the 49ers and LIUNA—sent a letter requesting that $24 million be dedicated to the Point Source Implementation Grant (PSIG) program. The PSIG program provides 80% matching grants up to $12 million for projects that support pollutant reduction under a wastewater permit. This popular program is oversubscribed, so it is important to dedicate additional funds to it. The CGMC will continue to advocate with the CWC, the Legislature, and the governor’s office for an increase in these funds.
