Yesterday, the Minnesota Public Facilities Authority (PFA) announced $91.7 million in loans and grants for wastewater and drinking water infrastructure projects in 26 cities throughout the state. The PFA helps cities replace aging infrastructure and make system improvements to protect public health and improve water quality. The funding will replace nearly 1,000 lead service lines in 15 cities, among other projects.
The PFA provides funding to local governments to build infrastructure for clean water, drinking water, and transportation infrastructure projects. Funding for these projects primarily comes from the PFA’s Clean Water Revolving Fund (CWRF) and the Drinking Water Revolving Fund (DWRF). Projects can also receive funding from PFA’s Point Source Implementation Grant program, Water Infrastructure Fund, and Small Community Wastewater Treatment Program.
Among the recipients for this funding are several CGMC members, including:
- Albert Lea – ($1,992,763) Service line replacement of approximately 150 lead lines with copper lines.
- Blue Earth – ($2,495,639) Service line replacement of approximately 134 lead lines with copper lines.
- Breckenridge – ($613,764) Service line replacement of approximately 40 lead lines with copper lines.
- Foley – ($664,898) Service line replacement of approximately 40 lead lines with copper lines.
- Madison – ($7,315,065) Rehabilitation of the existing water treatment plant, including the addition of new gravity filters and reverse osmosis equipment.
- Moorhead – ($466,630) Service line replacement of approximately 30 lead lines with copper lines.
- Red Wing – ($2,218,319) Construction of a new booster station and an exterior diesel generator.
- Thief River Falls – ($930,710) Service line replacement of approximately 75 lead lines with copper lines.
- Wabasha – ($179,429) Service line replacement of approximately 10 lead lines with copper lines.
This funding is vital to helping our cities deliver safe drinking water and reliable wastewater services to their communities. Funding assistance for the lead line replacement projects is particularly significant, as this has been a top priority for the CGMC over the last several years. Congratulations to member recipients!
