CGMC President Nancy Carroll, Mayor of Park Rapids, released the following statement regarding Gov. Dayton’s budget proposal.
The past years have been some of the most challenging times greater Minnesota communities have ever faced. The continued cuts to local government aid have taken a very heavy toll on our communities—city property taxes have skyrocketed 77 percent since 2002 and communities have been forced to make very painful cuts in core services such as police, fire, libraries and snow plowing.
Today, Gov. Dayton’s budget steers Minnesota in a new direction by saying “enough is enough” to the property tax increases and cuts that are crippling communities. Gov. Dayton’s budget not only sends the message that greater Minnesota will stay open for business, but that the entire state—whether you live in Warroad, Worthington or Woodbury—is a valued part of Minnesota’s future.”
