The CGMC issued the following statement from CGMC President and Ely City Councilor Heidi Omerza regarding Gov. Dayton’s budget proposal, which was released on Jan. 27:
“Governor Dayton’s budget represents a missed opportunity to bring economic growth to Greater Minnesota. It’s stunning that with a $1 billion surplus, the Governor couldn’t put one dime toward restoring the Local Government Aid program back to its 2002 level. His budget also fails to adequately address important economic development issues like job training, workforce housing and broadband. The $30 million he allocates for broadband funding is well below the $200 million recommended by his own broadband task force and falls far short of meeting the needs in communities throughout Greater Minnesota. We are counting on the Legislature to make Greater Minnesota a higher priority.”
