Statement from Nancy Carroll, Mayor of Park Rapids and President of the Coalition of Greater MN Cities regarding 2011 Tax Conference Committee Position on LGA

“Last night, the tax conference committee decided to cut an additional 29 % of local government aid funding and cripple the state’s largest cities by phasing out their funding. The House and Senate majority’s plan to balance the state budget by relying entirely on spending cuts and property tax increases is unacceptable.”

“The CGMC stands with local chambers of commerce, business owners and families to oppose these cuts that will hurt our businesses and make our communities less attractive places to live and raise a family. This plan demonstrates why the Legislature must compromise and adopt a balanced solution that includes raising state taxes.”
