Nearly 1/3 of the money raised by the Legacy Sales Tax is dedicated to the Clean Water Fund. Every two years, the Clean Water Council (CWC) makes recommendations on how that money should be spent. Earlier this week, the CGMC weighed in on how the fund should be allocated by sending in a letter to the CWC highlighting three priorities that are vitally important to wastewater and drinking water systems. The CGMC highlighted the need for more investment in the Point Source Implementation Grant (PSIG) program, which provides support to municipalities that need to upgrade their systems to meet pollutant removal requirements in their wastewater permits. The letter also supported funding for chloride reduction and for work implementing pollution reduction programs. You can read the CGMC’s letter here.

The CWC will be considering our recommendation along with input from state agencies and other stakeholders over the next month. The CWC will forward its recommendations to the Governor’s office in late September, and the final recommendations will be included in the Governor’s proposed budget next year.
