The application process is now open for the Workforce Housing Development Program through Minnesota Housing. This program is targeted toward small to mid-sized communities in Greater Minnesota with rental workforce housing needs. The application closes at noon on Jan. 11, 2022.

The program goals are to build market-rate residential rental properties for cities with proven job growth and demand for workforce rental housing. Cities are required to secure funds that match one dollar for every two dollars in funding offered through this program. Matching funds can also be in kind donations (TIF, tax abatements, land donations, partial donations, and waiving city fees).

There is $4 million available in this funding round. Cities with populations up to 5,000 will score high in this program, as well as cities with smaller housing project applications and cities in opportunity zones.

On Wednesday, Minnesota Housing held a webinar that provided details on the program. If you have any specific questions on the Workforce Housing Development Program or your individual city’s application, please contact Sara Bunn at sara.bunn@state.mn.us.
