The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency has announced the availability of $870,000 in climate planning grants for communities. This funding is an opportunity to assess vulnerabilities and conduct planning in three areas: stormwater resilience, wastewater resilience, and community resilience to adapt services and public spaces for the effects of climate change.

Projects funded through this grant could include:

  • A vulnerability assessment to gauge the impact of stronger, higher frequency storms on stormwater infrastructure
  • Plan development for wastewater infrastructure improvement projects to mitigate the impact of increased flooding
  • Climate risk assessments for community infrastructure like parks and recreational areas, roads, public buildings, local power infrastructure, etc.
  • Community engagement projects to support authentic input from residents and stakeholders on climate adaptation planning

Tribal nations, cities, counties, towns/townships, soil and water conservation districts, water management organizations, water districts, regional development commissions and the Metropolitan Council are eligible to apply. Applications are due no later than Tuesday, Dec. 21 at 4 p.m.
