With Labor Day behind us and the first couple of weeks of school in the books, election season is officially in full swing. As candidates for governor, lieutenant governor, state representative, and state senator visit your communities, do not let the opportunity to highlight important CGMC issues be missed—this is especially true of local government aid (LGA). Regardless of who gets elected or what the state budget situation looks like, the CGMC will be making an affirmative case during the 2027 legislative session for an LGA increase. Be sure to highlight:
- The importance of LGA to your city
- LGA’s role in helping to restrain property taxes AND providing basic city services
- Unlike other state programs, the LGA appropriation DOES NOT grow with inflation
- LGA funding was last increased in 2023 and has been flat since
We would also encourage you to be sure candidates have seen our 2026 Candidate Packet that highlights additional CGMC issues, such as water and wastewater infrastructure, EMS, housing, and transportation. You can access the packet by clicking the button below or visiting bit.ly/CGMC_CP26.
As always, if you or any of the candidates have further questions about any of the CGMC’s issue areas, please do not hesitate to contact CGMC Executive Director Bradley Peterson at bmpeterson@flaherty-hood.com.
