In 2019, Gov. Walz signed Executive Order 19-37, which described the scope of challenges Minnesota will face because of our changing climate. It also created a Climate Change Subcabinet to engage with Minnesotans on these issues, recommend policies and strategies to advance Minnesota’s greenhouse gas reduction goals, and help prepare for and mitigate climate impacts.
Earlier this month, the climate adaptation coordinator reached out to the CGMC to set up an engagement session for our members. Minnesota Pollution Control Agency Assistant Commissioner Katrina Kessler will be presenting about the Climate Subcabinet and the seven climate initiatives its Resiliency and Adaptation Team has developed. Minnesota Department of Natural Resources Assistant Commissioner Shannon Lotthammer and Minnesota Department of Agriculture Deputy Commissioner Andrea Vaubel will present on behalf of the Natural and Working Lands Team and they may be joined by Minnesota Board of Water & Soil Resources Executive Director John Jaschke. Because their work will impact our communities, they set up this meeting with to talk about their work, answer questions, and receive feedback and comments.
The meeting is scheduled for at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 8 and it will be held online. It is open to all CGMC members, both staff and elected officials. If you would like to attend, please contact Elizabeth Wefel at eawefel@flaherty-hood.com and she will make sure you receive the log-in information to join the meeting.
