It may seem like the last legislative session just ended, but work has begun to prepare for 2022. Traditionally, even-numbered years are considered “bonding years,” and we are hopeful the House and Senate will come together to pass a large bonding bill that addresses infrastructure needs throughout Minnesota.

One of the first steps in assembling the bonding bill is the bonding tour, where members of the Capital Investment Committee travel the state to learn about potential bonding projects. The Senate began its tour this week with visits across northwest Minnesota. For three days, senators from both parties who serve on the Capital Investment Committee, along with Committee Chair Sen. Tom Bakk (I-Cook), toured projects in communities ranging from Dayton and Montrose to Moorhead to Red Lake Falls to Little Falls and many stops in between. They will be touring the northeast in September, southeast in October, southwest in November and the metro area in January.

The House is in the process of scheduling their bonding tour as well and is tentatively planning to visit projects in northwest Minnesota in September, northeast and southwest/central in October, and southeast and the metro area in November.

The policy team from the Governor’s office may conduct site visits as well.

If your city has a bonding project that you would like to be included in an upcoming tour, please reach out to your local legislators.
