Last week, the Office of Cannabis Management held a webinar to give an update on its implementation efforts. Interim director Charlene Briner said that local governments will play an important and crucial role in the success of the industry launch. Businesses that want to operate in cities will be working closely with local governments to gain approval for zoning and all the other time, place, and manner ordinances that may be put in place.
The update also included a discussion of the changes made to the original law passed this legislative session, the timeline, the office hiring process, preparing for market launch, the social equity application process, and rulemaking.
In addition, the webinar featured resources for local governments, including a workbook and resource guide. You can view the guide for local governments here and other resources on the local government page of the Office of Cannabis Management website. The guidance includes a draft model ordinance for local government staff to reference in the development of ordinances.
