One year ago today — March 11, 2020 — we celebrated our annual CGMC Legislative Action Day, where more than 125 city leaders from across the state convened in St. Paul to meet with legislators and lobby on the issues that are important to our communities. It was also the date that many people consider the “last normal day” before COVID-19 upended our lives.
During that in-person Legislative Action Day event, we shook many hands (though elbow bumps were starting to become popular) and held maskless meetings with legislators. That evening, we enjoyed cocktails and a steak dinner in a crowded banquet room at Mancini’s. By the time the night wrapped up, we learned that the NBA had shut down its season and Tom Hanks had tested positive for COVID-19. The rest, as they say, is history.
The last 365 days have been difficult to say the least, but we continue to be impressed by the passionate city leaders who represent Greater Minnesota communities. You have worked tirelessly to keep your communities healthy and safe, while continuing to advocate for the needs of your residents and local businesses. As we look forward to better times ahead, we at the CGMC want to thank you for all you have done, and continue to do, during this challenging time.
