The “flushable wipes” bill, SF 2525, passed off the Senate floor on Thursday afternoon. Many of our cities have reported problems with mislabeled wipes flushed down toilets wreaking havoc on sewer systems. This bill, authored by Sen. Vicki Jensen (DFL-Owatonna), simply requires that manufacturers truthfully label their products. Thank you to everyone who reached out to their senator to urge them to support this bill!

The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) brought this bill forward after hearing about this issue from communities across the state during their listening tour last fall. The CGMC has worked with the MPCA, League of Minnesota Cities, Metro Cities and others to improve the bill and move it forward. Now that is has passed in the Senate, the most likely next step is inclusion in an already existing conference committee discussion, such as the supplemental finance bill.
