On Monday, the omnibus tax bill (HF 9), was released, resulting from significant negotiation between the House and Senate ahead of the special session. The bill contains several provisions that support Greater Minnesota communities, including:
- A supplemental Local Government Aid (LGA) provision which ensures that no city will receive less LGA in 2022 than it received in 2021, while also holding all other cities harmless on the formula
- Expansion of the commercial/industrial market value exclusion to $150,000
- Creation of fire protection special tax districts
- Several local sales tax provisions for cities across the state
The House Tax Committee will meet Friday to hear an overview of the bill and take questions from members. The tax bill is expected to be one of the last bills that the House and Senate take up before the special session (hopefully) wraps up ahead of the June 30 deadline. CGMC will continue to monitor all the budget bills as the special session continues.
