Worthington Mayor Alan Oberloh was elected to serve as president of the Coalition of Greater Minnesota Cities (CGMC) August 5th at the Coalition’s three-day summer conference in Grand Rapids, Minn. As president, Mayor Oberloh will help direct efforts to inform state legislators of issues unique to greater Minnesota, such as property tax relief, transportation funding, and economic development.
Oberloh was elected by fellow mayors and city officials from across the state to lead the CGMC.
“Mayor Oberloh has been deeply involved in our organization and has earned the respect of mayors across the state because of his common-sense, pragmatic approach to problem solving,” said Tim Flaherty, Executive Director of the CGMC. “Mayor Oberloh has been instrumental in advocating that the legislature needs to support rural communities. He is an articulate, well-spoken leader who can get the attention of state policy makers. Greater Minnesota has a real strong voice in Mayor Oberloh.”
Park Rapids Mayor Nancy Carroll, who Oberloh will be replacing as president, echoed Flaherty’s comments.
“CGMC is lucky to have Alan’s leadership during the coming year. These are very difficult and important times and it is critical to have a steady, stable hand at the wheel-someone with the respect and credibility that can stand toe to toe with the governor or suburban legislators to defend rural Minnesota.”
