What do CGMC Policy Committees do?
Coalition of Greater Minnesota Cities Policy Committees meet each fall to draft the CGMC’s policy priorities for the upcoming legislative session. These meetings take place virtually throughout September and early October and are facilitated by a CGMC lobbyist with expertise in the policy area. The drafted priorities are reviewed and approved by the membership at the Fall Conference in November, and serve as a framework for the CGMC’s advocacy efforts for the next session.
Who is eligible to participate in a Policy Committee?
Any elected official or staff member from a CGMC member city is welcome to join a Policy Committee. We encourage anyone interested in a specific issue to join the Policy Committee mailing list, even if they cannot attend the meeting. Members may also join more than one Policy Committee.
Why should I join a Policy Committee?
The CGMC’s legislative priorities are driven by the needs of our members. We rely on leaders from our cities to share their perspectives and help ensure that our agenda best reflects the priorities of CGMC member cities. Even after the committee has met in the fall, committee members are often our first resource to solicit feedback or provide testimony on a specific issue during the legislative session.
